Super Bowl Parties Put Oregon Homeowners At Risk

If you’re hosting a Super Bowl Party this Sunday, make sure your guests stay safe. Oregon has what’s called Social Host Liability laws.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the riskiest days to drive because of impaired drivers. In Oregon, a party’s host can be held liable for injuries or damage caused by an impaired party guest.

Kenton Brine, President of the NW Insurance Council, says the best course of action is to have a plan for intoxicated party guests to get home.

Aside from Uber, Lyft and taxi service, the National Highway Safety Administration has an app called Safer Ride that you can download on your smart phone and find a variety of resources for people to get home safely from your party.

Brine says your homeowners or renters insurance does provide liability protection for you if a third-party is injured by one of your guests. But there are limits, so you’ll want to check with insurance company about the policy you have and its limits.

For more information on how to protect yourself, your family and home, you can call NW Insurance Council at 800-664-4942 and ask for Your Guide to Insurance brochure.
