TriMet Needs Testers For New Fare System

Trimet, C-TRAN and the Portland Streetcar need rider feedback for their new Hop Fastpass system, expected to launch later this year.

Riders will be able to use contactless payment devices like a Hop smart card, bank card or their smartphones to pay fare onboard or at a VINE, MAX, or WES commuter rail platform where riders can just tap and board.

Angela Murphy, Public Information Officer for TriMet, says they’re inviting around 250 participants to test out the electronic-fare payment system to see how it’s working and to make any improvements before rolling it out to all riders. Every two weeks they will add testers until it launches.

Murphy says TriMet is shooting to launch Hop Fastpass by July, but it depends on how this test phase goes. They want to make sure all bugs and details are ironed out before the full launch.
