First Downtown Portland BottleDrop Express Site

The popular “green bag” account program opens in downtown Portland.

Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) has brought their first urban BottleDrop Express site to the Stadium Fred Meyer Monday, June 19th, a convenient way to take back bottles and cans 24/7.

OBRC operates the new Express drop door similar to how it operates its redemption centers. They include a secure drop door and in-store kiosk. You can sign up for a BottleDrop account at the kiosk, buy green BottleDrop bags inside the store, and drop full bags off in the drop door located in the store’s bottle room. Green bags will then be picked up and counted and deposits will be credited within 5 business days. You can access funds at the BottleDrop Express kiosk.

The Express Box joins 20 other successful BottleDrop Centers around the state, encouraging even more people to participate in the Bottle Bill. The Estacada test site collected over 1,000 green bags in the first 6 weeks, and OBRC hopes to place 12 new sites before 2018. 45 BottleDrop Centers are planned to open statewide by 2020.

Sites at Safeway stores in the Pearl and St. Johns are coming this summer.
