2 Alarm Fire Damages Transmission Shop

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire at 10:49 a.m. Thursday.

The fire was reported to be inside H & H Auto & Transmission Center in Tigard.

The first crews to arrive reported seeing a large column of black smoke in the area and asked fire dispatch to upgrade the incident to a working fire and add additional resources to the call.

The first-arriving fire apparatus to the scene was at 10:52 a.m. and reported a one-story auto shop with heavy, black smoke billowing from the front of the building. Due to the heavy fire conditions upon arrival, our crews initiated a defensive attack using hose lines from the exterior of the building.

The auto shop was full of combustible materials and had a couple cars parked inside that made firefighting conditions challenging. All first-alarm units were working, and with additional work ahead, a second alarm was called at 11:18 a.m. to bring additional resources to the scene. The incident commander reported that the fire was under control at 11:51 a.m.

The owner and an employee of H & H Auto & Transmission Center were in the building at the time of the fire and were able to escape without injuries. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Portland Fire & Rescue, Lake Oswego Fire Department, Tigard Police Department and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office assisted TVF&R crews at the incident.
