While the Portland area saw 2 inches of snow Monday morning, mainly in the West Hills, the Southern Willamette Valley was hit hard, shutting down parts of I-5 and highways in the area.

The National Weather Service is reporting 10 inches of snow hit parts of Eugene by late Monday morning.

Travel conditions have worsened as the snow continues to fall, especially in Douglas County.

I-5 was closed in both directions between Glendale and Cottage Grove due to the heavy snow, downed power lines and trees.

Highway 42 South between Coquille and Bandon is closed because of a landslide, and drivers should expect delays on 42 in Coos County due to small landslides.

Highway 138 West between Suthern and Elkton is closed.

Drivers need to be prepared for winter driving, and are encouraged to carry chains and a winter emergency kit in their vehicles.
