Up Close And Personal

I've been lucky to be in a business I enjoy for more than 31 years. After graduating from Southern Illinois University in 1976, I started working in television in my native state of Illinois.  I moved to the Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida area in the late '70s, then headed to Portland in 1980. After spending more than 13 years exclusively in TV, I switched to radio as my full time job.  I hosted KEX Sportsline (a 2-hour Sports Talk show) and the "5th Quarter With Scott Lynn" after every Trail Blazers' game from 1989 to 1995, then switched duties to anchoring the Sports reports in morning and afternoon drive-times in September of 1995.  I enjoy bringing you listeners the sports news of the day as well as entertaining feature reports like this 2004 report on a local man and his life in sports. "What's the Score"

And you baseball fans should have been with me as I experienced Opening Day 2007 in Seattle.  If you are a fan, please take a few minutes to listen to the Sounds of Opening Day.   Click Here To Listen

I am proud to say that the Mariners' Opening Day story has been recognized by the  Associated Press as the "Best Use of Audio" in 2007 by the Oregon A.P. and it also has earned the 2008 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Best Sports Reporting.   I'm not one who likes to talk about awards, so somebody from Promotions is going to have to fill in the details.

Promotions Person:

When Scott talks sports, Portlanders listen. And with good reason: seven times the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has voted him Oregon Sportscaster of the Year. And, as head of the KEX sports desk, he has led his team to best-in-Oregon honors from the Associated Press 15 of the last 18 years -- including 2007!  Among his award-winning stories are the 2004 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award winning sports story on The Shot and the 2005 Oregon AP Award for Best Use of Audio in A Day At The Park.  Scott also earned a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for his behind the scenes report on the Southridge High School quarterfinal round game in the 2006 Oregon Girls High School Basketball Tournament.

Scott treats listeners to his knowledge, insights, and entertaining quips.......... Now, back to Scott.

Okay, I'm back...enough of that awards stuff. When not on radio, you might have seen me calling TV Play-by-play on the Oregon State Beaver Television Network or on Fox Sports Northwest.  I have called Oregon State Football and mens and womens Basketball on BSN. I have also done TV play-by-play on Fox Sports Net (Northwest) for OSU, Gonzaga, Washington, Portland, and the West Coast Conference. I've also handled the play-by-play duties for the O.S.A.A. State Championships in football, and boys' and girls' basketball on FSN (NW).  More recently, in 2007 I called college basketball and pro lacrosse games on Versus (the former Outdoor Life Network), and I was the TV Voice of the Portland Lumberjax lacrosse team (seen locally on KPDX-49).  This academic year, I called play by play of University of Portland and Portland State University mens' basketball games on Comcast SportsNet, and I have also called the University of Portland NCAA soccer playoff games and AVP Pro Beach Volleyball on Comcast SportsNet.  My streak is alive at 31 straight years on TV in some form or another!

I have been at KEX Radio for nearly 19 years and am looking forward to many more years of fun and frivolity while bringing you the latest sports news and features.
I hope you'll listen for my KEX Sports Reports Monday through Friday mornings at :10 and :40 past the hour. Weekday reports start at 5:40am while my afternoon sports reports are at 4:02, 5:02, and 6:02.
