Kristen Bell and I have something in common. We're very emotional. VERY EMOTIONAL. Especially when it comes to seeing our FAVORITE animals. That hasn't happened yet for me. My best friend, Teela, and I went to Belize and I hoped I would catch a glimpse of a real manatee. Didn't happen. Rest assured, a trip to Florida is in order.
Here's what happened when Kristen found out she'd be meeting a real, live sloth. HILAR!
For the third year, I've formed TEAM HEATON to walk the Portland Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk in honor of my mother, Linda, who has been dealing with the symptoms of young on-set dementia for over a decade. It is also a tribute to my grandmother, Rosalia Heaton, who also suffered memory loss before her death.
Here's a shot of our small team in 2008. We doubled our team last year. This year, we have 22 members committed to the walk and several maybes. Won't you join us?
The Memory Walk is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association which works to educate the public about the disease that slowly wipes away the short and long-term memories of its victims. Eventually, they become unable to care for themselves. The disease hit my mom when I was in college at Western Oregon University and my brother, Gregory, was a student at David Douglas High School.
The association also contributes funds to research to find treatments, causes and eventually a cure. And they provide valuable assistance to caretakers like my dad, Ron, who retired from his job with Multnomah County several years ago just to start his new job as an around-the-clock healthcare worker, providing all the care Mom needs as she battles the late stages of Alzheimer's.

FBI 100th Anniversary/Grand Opening of new firearms training facility
Monday 07-28-2008 1:24pm PT
The FBI is celebrating 100 years of service. Oregon's FBI is also celebrating the opening of a new firearms training center a few miles outside of St. Helens in Columbia County.
Click Here to watch me learn how to shoot an MP5. The end of the video is the best. That's when I shift my weight backwards, and the kick of the gun nearly knocks me over. I still managed to hit the target!
I also learned a bit about the standard issue FBI handgun, the Glock.
The new training center will be available to all Oregon law enforcement. Until now, Oregon FBI agents were training is Washington.
