A note from Scott:

Hey Friends,

My New Year’s holiday didn’t quite go the way I’d planned.

On Sunday, December 28th, I went to the hospital with extreme abdominal pain and the next thing I knew; I was having surgery for colon cancer!

The first few days have been a little rough and I look forward to recuperating at home.  After some healing time, my doctors tell me I’ll need chemotherapy.

As I regain my strength, I look forward to getting back on the radio.  I hope to be doing sportscasts from my home studio in the near future.

Thanks for your prayers and well wishes!

Talk to you soon!

Scott

Get well Scott

Dear Scott,

As someone who has had the chance to know you, I can say with certainty that you're one of the good ones. You're the kind of person that everybody likes, always charming and nice to everyone. It would be tempting to praise you for maintaining a positive attitude, and you have, but somehow that wouldn't seem fair. I've never seen any evidence of it, but even If you did feel occasionally scared or bitter, I think that's fully understandable. You're still a great guy and nothing could ever change that. My wife and I will pray for your full recovery.

Thanks for informing us
Since I just had an employee diagnoised with Colon cancer I went to your blog to find out what you had to share.  I like how you share the process and it gives me a better understanding of what I can expect my employee will be going through.  This is a good service you are doing for others that you may have never touched before.  Keep up the good work you are doing with the blog as well as your sports casting!
Thanks, Roger

Thinking of you often
Scott,

Just a note to let you know how much I've been thinking of you lately.  I haven't seen or talked to you for years but I'll never forget our days as friendly competitors in the world of local sports televison.

I was shocked when I first heard the news and then I saw the segment on AM Northwest and was compelled to write.

Scott, you're in my thoughts daily and I KNOW you will win this battle.  Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help out in the future.

Scott,

Good luck as you enter the "Wide World of Chemo"! And if you do have a few side effects--think of this: you are on radio, not TV, so your listeners won't know it if you look less than your normal chipper self!  But if you are on air somewhere, just borrow makeup from Linnman.....

Best to you!

Scott,

Thanks for your continued openness with your fans and yes you were right Pittsburgh won, but what a game and the Cardinals played their hearts out.  They almost made it.

Hang in there as you begin your Chemo and so glad you are getting a Port,  it will make it much easier on your veins.

May you be blessed as you continue to fight this disease,  your positive attitude and desire to be well is a major tool in this fight.

Will look forward to hearing your voice again.  You're the best!!!!

Future Thinking
Scott,

Its good to here that you are confident with your doctor.Thats very important to recovery, mentally and physically. I am thankful to say I'm 11 years and still counting to be free from that nasty disease.. After losing three of my friends, in about as many years , you know what was going on in my head when I was diagnosed. Not long after my surgery an recovery, I found out I was going to be a GRANDMA for the first time. I want to believe that the powers that be, kept me here for just that reason.I dont know for sure if you are a grandpa or not, but this has been the best 11 years. My grandson has completely turned my life around! At 57, I feel young again!  Maybe something special is waiting for you in your future too! Hold on,be tough, and just say no to this dam- thing!

god bless you and your family hope to here you again soon on the radio!

cancer free
My daughter was diagnosed with cancer in Dec. 2007. She had moved from Portland, as had I to Ga. She moved in July. I had moved about two years before.
I helped her move and she had a knot on her neck. Her husband had been laid off there from Freighline when they were
closing.
To make a very long envolved story short. I got on line and sent
a prayer request out to a little prayer line I had online. Within weeks I was hearing from prayer groups all over the country who had my daughter on their prayer chain. People I never heard of.
Rhonda, my daughter turned 37 in Feb. last year while doing chemo. She has 4 small children whom I stayed with and seen her thru the chem.
Thanks be to Jesus, she was told in May she is cancer free.
Nov they took another scan checked her out and she is 9 mos. cancer free. Thanks be to Jesus.
I share that with you to tell you that I am sending your name out to this little prayer chain and to let you know that God gives
the doctors the knowledge they have, and I thank Him for that,
the healing for that alone comes from the Maker.
We will be trusting and believing God for you healing and a very
quick recovery.
God Bless You
I always enjoyed listening to KEX when I was there. Before I re-
tired I worked at Legacy and listened all day in my courier car.
Be Blessed.

You made a difference!
I was saddened to hear of your challenge with cancer.  I wanted to thank you for recognizing my grandson on your weekly recognition of high school kids for their contributions on and off the sport venue.  Your recognition was a morale booster for his efforts at going out for sports and sticking with it being a small, inexperienced  and unconfident kid who wanted to play basketball.  He is doing well and some credit goes to you for recognizing his efforts in the face of adversity.  Get well.

You're doing good and are well on the road to recovery.  Look at the chemo as just another challenge you're taking on, and know that there are lots of us out here thinking of you and sending you healthy thoughts and wishes.

When you think you're not strong enough, just look at all you've done in the past and know that you can do this, too.  Remember that your main job right now is to concentrate on your getting healthy and strong and know that when you get through this, that, everything else will fall into place.

We love you and are out here rooting for you and your team!

Remember The Portland Trail Blazers
Scott.....
   Remember The Portland Trail Blazers

In the 1976-77 campaign, the Blazers posted their first winning record, going 49-33 under the leadership of Ramsay

The team—Walton at center, Lucas and Lloyd Neal at forward, and Dave Twardzik and Lionel Hollins at guard—made the playoffs for the first time. The Blazers won the NBA championship in their first time in the playoffs. After defeating the Chicago Bulls (who were a Western Conference team at the time) and the Denver Nuggets (a surviving ABA team) in the early rounds, the Blazers defeated the favored Los Angeles Lakers, led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in four straight games. They then went on to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 4-2 for the championship. Wow  what a time    if they can Win this

Good luck to you, this is probably the most frightening experiece of your life to this point.  I to have had colon cancer surgery, it will be five years in April. I chose not to have chemo, my oncologist said it was effective in 2% of cases. It has been a round of follow up every three, six, and twelve months over these years.  The time has passed amazingly fast. It certainly changes ones outlook on life, family and friends.

Scott,

One of my greatest pleasures of 2008 was being your shadow at a Beaver's game last May.  I thanked you then and I thank you again now.  You're a true gentlemen and a magnificent representative of KEX.

I certainly hope that your bosses and co-workers know what a true treasure and consummate professional you are to the morning team.

As you beat this cancer back, you have the support of multitudes of people that are there to fight with you and encourage you as you heal and beat this thing.

Through it all you have your friends, both close and from afar, to wish you the best and to offer you support, encouragemant and to join you in steadfast determination that if there is anything we can do...just ask.

I consider my wife, my sister and I very fortunate to have spent that day in your company and as a result, I consider myself privileged to call you my friend.

Heal fast and may God Bless!!!

The positive attitude you always have shown on your broadcasts will be needed and will help you win this struggle. I had lunch today with another fellow who had just been diagnosed with cancer and he made the comment that his whole life had just been one battle after another and that was how he was going to deal with this. Good luck and I look forward to your return to the airwaves. You are missed!

I do have some news to share.  While my skills are not quite considered athletic, I am a baton twirler in 2 all adult marching bands.  "Get a Life Marchng Band received word about Jan 2 that we had been accepted and we will be seen in Washington DC on Jan 20.  We are going to be at the very end of the parade (what is wrong with this picture? ) so keep an eye out for us.  As Captain, I have been scrambleing to get 10 twirlers ready to go.  We were forced to cut 6 twirlers who were ready and wanting to go.  It was hard.  Anyway, check out the big parade led by Obama and family.

Greetings from Manteno.
The deep freeze of the midwest.

To report we were shocked is an understatement to say the least.

Sharon has kept us appraised of your situation, and with the prayers of family & friends, it is more than good news to hear that you are on the mend.

Being at home now, in the care of loving family & friends, you should make rapid progress, but let nature do it's thing. You pay the Dr a lot, so you might as well take his advise.

Our daily prayers will continue so long as you are in need.
We will try to keep in touch.

I moved to PDX in 1977 and have enjoyed your broadcasts for as long as I can remember, both at Channel 8 and on KEX.  You're a class act and my prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family.  Looking forward to hearing you back on the air soon!  Hoping you cherish each day.........Thanks.

Hi Scott,
I'm sorry to hear about your health problems, but I hope it was discovered in time for you to have a full recovery.  I'm living in Arizona now--a long way from the old KGW-TV days.
All the best to you.

Your laugh made my day

No kidding, my favorite part of listening to KEX in the morning is when someone makes you laugh out loud.  You have the most infectious fun laugh in radio and it always make me chuckle and smile.  I always meant to email Paul Lindman and tell him he has a new task - to crack you up laughing at least once each morning just to make my day.  I still have lots of your fun laughs in my head, especially when they first kidded you about living on a farm.  But I have just enough to keep me going for about the length of chemo treatment.  So I look forward to your healthy happy return to radio.

PRAYERS OR HEALING
Scott -

Last February (2008) my husband was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer at first they said Stage 3 but since treatment, chemo, radiation  surgery at St. V in Sept 30 by the best (Dr. C.)  and final reconnect surgery 12/30.  They got it all and he is now a Stage 2.

1/20 he will be headed for more chemo therapy (preventative).  He has been through treatment, doing great  and was back to work today.

I know you will do great and be back on the air shortly.  I can't wait for that day.   Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Our prayers and thoughts are also with your "team".  Family, friends and co-workers make up that team.  They are in your corner and a very important part of your healing.

Scott,

I wish you nothing but the best in your recovery.  My sister is terminal with her Crones Disease and every day is a battle for her.  She is only 31 and they give her a year tops.  I hope they caught your cancer in time so the chemo will take care of it.  Life is strange in the way it deals us all these curve balls.  I hope your family is ok and that you have a speedy recovery.  Take care and I wish you the best of luck!!

Thank you,

Scott - I don't know you personally, but have enjoyed listening to your broadcasts during the past few years.  You are truly one of the most talented, knowledgable, and good humored sportscasters I've heard.

Having experienced cancer up close and personal, I know that no two days are the same.  Encouraging and inspiring words like the ones I've read here are so important to providing hope.

All my best to you and your family as you face the challenge of your life.  May faith, healing, and rest be yours during this difficult time.  We, your fans, await your triumphant return.

This is Scott linn at 1190 KEX . . .

That's what I look forward to hearing when you return to the air.  My mom just had her 2nd treatment Monday, she was diagnosed in September of lung cancer.  Praise the Lord for a blood clot that ended up drawing attention to the cancer early.

As with you, sounds like this was found early.  While I'm so very very sorry for you going through all of this, Sounds like a blessing you went into the hospital, and it went fast, not a lot of time to stop and think.

You and your family are in my family's prayers, I hope and pray for strength for you all.  You will pull through.

Looking forward to your laugh, and upbeat attitude, and sports news from Scott Linn the only way it should be.

Thank you for being you.  Hang in there, find strength in the Lord, I bet you are surpised to see the prayers being answered every day.  Iknow my family can see them daily with my mom.

Love ya man.  Kristi

May Our Lord be with You
The time we are given is not our own,
It is given by God,
His plan is not known to us, and his ways have no way to be understood by us.
The way that we think, is set apart, until we seek the words of God,
Turn to God, and rest and know that he is in controll.
Our prayers are for God's will to be done,
LOVE is what we have.

Hold to Hope
One item that always helped me get through the time in 1986 when my husband was diagnosed with an operable brain tumor is an acroynym for the word hope:

H = Hold

O = On

P = Praying

E = Earnestly/Expectantly

With much prayer, surgery, massive radiation treatments and support of family and friends, he is still in remission. You are in our hearts & prayers too. I am so glad to be living in a time where we have such wonderful medical help and it gets better all the time!

God bless you,

Hang in there, God Bless You
Dear Scott,
I know what it is like to be felled with a sudden attack of a disease.  I was attacked by Nacrotizing Fastiitus called," the skin eating disease," a rare strep infection, this last August. I am still getting my strength back.

It was a minute to minute battle for 8 days as the sergeons fought for my life.  I am told that 95% of people that have the disease don't make it and the extent of my disease I am considered a miracle.
I know that this is grim and you are feeling grim so I will get to my point.

When I became cogent at the end of the battle I was struck with the impression that People Were Praying for Me. I hadn't been alone when I was walking through the valley. Other brothers and sisters had been surrounding me with the power of their prayers.

You are not alone.  Others are praying for you. Please know that you will gain strength from our prayers.  Take this knowledge and let this blanket surround you.  Be encouraged when you are feeling like crap WE are there with you.
Live in Cod's strength.
His servant, Paul.

Praying for you
Scott -

We miss you!

I want you to know that my father-in-law had a similar situation in 2007.  One year after a good colonoscopy he was rushed to the hospital with the same diagnosis and surgery.

He is in his mid-seventies, has had chemo, and is doing just great.  A few years before, he had had a slight stroke and prostate cancer, so he wasn't in the best shape to begin with.  If he can do it, you can too!

Praying for your full recovery and return to the air soon.

I WAS TOLD WEDNESDAY THAT ITS ALL GONE.  IT CAN BE TREATED AND I HOPE YOURS IS TOO.

You're in our thoughts and prayers!  We miss you.
Eleven years ago (when in his early 50's) my husband went through this cycle of sudden surgery for colon cancer, then chemotherapy.  Scott, you'll see the world with fresh eyes in this next year: the sunshine will be brighter, the world more beautiful, moments more precious, hugs more frequent, priorities clearer, family dearer, friends nearer.  A "do-it-now" attitude will evolve.  These healthy, post-cancer ten years have been the best of our lives.  May it be the same for you.

Get well My friend!
Hi Scott, Years ago I found out I had some cancer, and the folks at OHSU did a fabulous job. They got every bit of it, and i have been 10 years with no relapse, (knocking on wood). I worked at OHSU when Craig Walker from K-103 went there for his transplant, and they did a good job. The treatments are more precise than ever, and less overwhelming than ever. Good luck, God Bless, and get well!

See you on the Air!

Sending you a message of hope!
Don't know if you're a believer or not, but there is great strength in God!  Here's a favorite verse of mine:
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
        They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not grow weary,
They will walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31
I'm joining with many others in praying for God's healing and strength for you.  I look forward to your return to KEX; you're really missed!

Off the cuff
Since you work at a station that carries Coast to Coast AM, you should have heard of all the alternative therapies by now.  If not self motivated, I would have gone to Scottsdale, AZ to Envita Clinic.  They have a much better success rate combining standard therapies with alternatives, often eliminating the need for
chemo therapy and other outdated  modalities.

Never ask a doctor about alternatives unless he is already using them.  Otherwise, the alternative is labeled quackery.

Getting Well Again
Scott:

There is a book titled "Getting Well Again" by Simonton & Simonton It is an excellent read. My stepfather was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 40 and was told that he was too far gone and no treatment was recommended, even cemotherapy. After insisting he fight it (he had to petition the Hospital Board even to allow him to get treatment!), he found this book which was an extremely valueable tool in helping him to beat the disease. He lived another 25 years.

I wish you all the best, and miss your familiar voice on the radio!!

Take care and Get Well Again!

And GO BEAVS!!!!

Privliged to wait on you...
Many years ago, when I worked at JCPenney Washington Square, I was privileged enough to wait on you and your wife with your first born (and newborn!) child.  I had just had my second child (son) about 6 months prior to that, but what stands out to me was your friendliness and how geniune you and your wife were and I'm sure, are.   I know that you are a family of faith, and I have faith and I know , that God has you in His hands and that you are healed and well on your way to recovery.

We would all be lost without your sense of humor and ability to keep ol' Paul :) in his place, and my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you and yours.

God bless always,

What a champ, Scott!  Thank you for your courageus acknowledgement and future comments on progress.  For the KEX sports reporter who does make a difference, we're praying a positive outcome!

Probably more than 13 years ago, a loyal listener averred, "Scott Linn is the best radio sports reporter!"  I took it with a grain o' salt, but time has proved it so.

Thank you, Scotty, for the most recent accolades which I heard on one day - - three times - - for Vinnie Roberts of Aurora who reads with elementary/primary kids during his school day.  'Did not pick up on the name of the woman who "nominated" him, but she may not have known that Vinnie also represented his school, sponsored by Aurora American Legion Post #110, at Boys State in Eugene, last June.

Not such a sport fan
To say that I'm not a big sports fan is a true statement, however the enthusiasm in your voice when your reporting on  sports event, draws my attention, listening to your every word.  I'm leaning more about sports everytime I listen to you.
Stay strong.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Expect the Best
So sorry to hear about your bout with cancer, Scott.  May you beat it thoroughly.  I heard a quote on the radio recently that's appropo and it was from Seneca.  He basically said that medical conditions tend to reflect the expectation of the patient, so expect the very best outcome possible.  And since you apparently don't hide the fact that your diet is wanting, you might want to consider using your considerable platform to encourage your listeners to enjoy themselves but remember to get plenty of fiber, water, fish oil and antioxidants.  Can't hurt...looking forward to hearing your bright, smiling voice once again and very soon.

See an RD
I hope you recovery quickly.  I recommend you see a registered dietitian they may be able to create a diet plan to help aid you in getting through chemotherapy and a quicker recovery. Ask your MD if they know of an RD in the area who is a cancer specialist, I know there is at least one working at OHSU.  There are also several websites that focus on cancer and nutrition both during and after therapy such as http://www.cancernutrition.com/.  Take care.

Scott, I am so sorry to hear of your surprise encounter with the medical world.  It's just not right that a nice guy that takes all the harrassment from the other guys at 1190 should be sick.

I live in Sequim, Wa.  Use to live in Portland and Vancouver and have been hooked on 1190 for many years.  I get to pick you guys up during the dark and lonely hours of traveling better than I can get Seattle.

So know that way up here in Sequim you are missed and appreciated.

I pray for your recovery and hope for the best in your future.

Scott, I remember first running into you at a listener lunch in Beaverton back in 1998. Out of all the personalities that were there that day, you took the time to talk to me about current sporting events, local and national. I appreciate it to this day and because of that, I switched to KEX1190 and have been a loyal listener for the last 11 years. It is because of your example that draws me to making this comment in letting you know that you are in my prayers. I recently went through a similar process with favorable results and it was my positive attitude and family members that got me through it all. Hang in there Bubba. We are all behind you 100%.

Scott:
Us retired guys get the news a lot later than most. I found out about your bout with cancer by covered wagon just yesterday (1/7/09). I need not add my two-cents worth to the growing list of well-wishers, all of whom are rooting for a speedy recovery for you.
As soon as you're able, we need to talk. I, too, am a member of the "We beat cancer club" and, believe me, it can be overcome. Indeed, cancer is the most treatable of the chronic diseases. Many more people survive the disease than die from it. You just have to remember that  conquering cancer is a process -- more like a complete major league baseball season as opposed to the seventh game of a World Series.
M'Lou and I are thinking of you, with a reminder that now is a good time to work on your book. Hope to see you soon.

Lots of love, Wayne & M'Lou

G'day from Your Biggest Fans Down Under!!!
Hey Scotty...

I've just scrolled down the zillions of messages left on this website for ya, mate.... WOW!!! What a fanclub of extended friends and family you have! And what a compliment to you, my dear friend.

From the KiwiYanks here in New Zealand... your biggest fans who download your podcasts daily... pleez get well soon!

You've given us all a big "wake up call" in terms of getting ourselves checked out for whatever might be goin' wrong with the 'ol plumbing. I'm sure this has been a big shock to you, your gorgeous wife and your two amazing not-so-small children (aren't they lucky to have a doting dad like you!!! aside from sport, your kids are ALL you ever talk about!) Please know we keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers, halfway 'round the world.

You have been such an amazing friend to me, ever since our KGW days... thank you for your never-ending friendship from afar.

Love to you and your amazing family... look forward to seeing you in July when we all hope to return to Portland for an important family commemoration. The kids and I will make sure to call in and see y'all then! Take good care, big guy!

Much love,

Best Wishes in your recovery
Hi Scott,
I too was shocked today when Paul announced your surgery and upcoming chemo.  We have in common a family history of colon cancer - as well as Central Illinois (Bloomington High, SIU-E), OSAA 4-A Boys tourney games @ the MC, and the story you emailed me from the Pantagraph about your career.  Thanks for sharing your story so others will be educated and motivated about the importance of colonoscopy and early detection.

The Morning Update won't be the same until you're back on the air!

Keeping you in prayer for a speedy recovery and successful chemo treatment.

GET WELL SCOTTY

Scott,

Really sorry to hear about your illness, but I know you'll get through it and get back on the air where you belong. My cousin said he got your autograph several years ago and told me what a kind class act you were. We remember you most as the original host of the 5th quarter, as well as your televison broadcasts for the Beaver football, men's and women's basketball and hosting duties for the pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows for Beaver football on radio. I especially miss your work with the beavs, hopefully KEX can resecure the rights to those broadcasts so all of beaver nation can hear you there again.

Get well soon I know you can beat this.

Posted By: beaverslc - Thursday, January 8th 2009 @ 1:45am
My buddy
Scotty,

You already knocked down a deep three to end the half...intercepted a mid-court pass and lobbed it to a team mate to end the 3rd quarter and now with the game on the line...the crowd chanting your name, you've come off two picks and await the pass deep in the corner to win the game (again) at the buzzer.  I have no doubt you'll make it...reveling in the journey and bringing all of us along for the ride.

Scotty, you had the courage to bring an amateur to KGW back in 82...coached, guided and mentored me without an expectation of anything in return.  For that and your friendship, I owe you a great deal, my friend.

I, along with thousands of others, are cheering for you every step of the way.  You can count on our prayers.

We will miss you on the air while you take care of yourself and beat this setback.  Always remain positive and believe that you will beat this!

I have always enjoyed your work, especially the Simonton call in the 98 Civil War.

Get well soon and I look forward to hearing you soon.

Our Prayers Are With You!!!
Hey, Scott....

My prayers are with you.  You have been a Portland institution over the years.  I remember when you were with KGW.  You always had an exuberance for sports and reporting it and it was definitely evident on screen.

I wish you all the best during your recovery and upcoming chemo sessions and I know you will fight this battle with all the gusto.  I look forward to seeing you again on TV during a Duck or Beaver football game.  Just know all of your long-time fans are pulling for you, praying for you and supporting you 100%.

Sincerely,

I wanted to take a second to wish you a very speedy recovery and let you know that you are not alone in this battle.  I am an American Cancer Society volunteer and want every man out there to please go get a colonoscopy!  Also, support your local Relay for Life event... these events help fund cancer research, programs and centers here locally so that patients like Scott can get the best care possible!

Again, Scott... best wishes and a speedy recovery, we need you back on the air!

Returning the Favor...
Dear Scott,
Many years ago you responded to a group of letters my 5th graders at Menlo Park School wrote you regarding aspects of your job.  You faithfully answered all letters, then put frosting on the cake by doing a promo for News8 sports, right in our classroom.  I'm sure that those fifith graders share my feelings about you: that was special consideration we'll never forget.
I wish you a quick and speedy recovery, and will keep a candle lit for you until you're out of harm's way.

Warm regards,

Wishing you the best and a quick recovery
My step father and my uncle both have had colon cancer. My step dad, about 10 years ago when he was 80, he'll be 90 next month and is strong as ever. His was caught early, and subsequent polyps removed. My uncle, diagnosed about two years ago at age 73, had an advanced case that had spread to his liver. He has had two surgeries, and is on a much longer road to recovery, with some recurrent 'spots' that his team is trying different chemos on. He is positive and resilient, and recently changed his mode of thinking to allow himself to accept input from others, rather than thinking "I can conquer this on my own." The lessons I've learned and the hope for you (and everyone): 1- Every day scientists are developing drugs that are better and better at targeting specific cancer cells but leaving the rest alone. 2- The chemo's for colon cancer generally don't include hair loss. But... Scott, you don't need to worry here! Nature has done that for you already... :) However, the loss of energy and overall malaise is real. 3 - Caught early, colon cancer is very, very treatable. My uncle - athletic and fit - had never had a colonoscopy at age 73. My mother insisted my sister have one at age 50, and I will too. Zap those polyps and you're usually good to go. 4 - Consider the advice people give you. 5 - Buy some comfortable gloves. The chemo makes your extremities kinda chilly. 6 - Thoughts, energy and/or prayers (however you want to phrase it) sent from people you know or not really do help. May your recovery be smooth and complete.

Thank you, Scott
for sharing such a personal part of your life with your listeners and fans.  You've already shown amazing strength and an attitude of hope and determination - quite the role model for the rest of us.

I have a friend who, in his late teens sustained burns to more than 90% of his body that left him blind and with amputations to his arms and legs.  But God has given him a wife and children and - most amazingly - he's had not one day of depression through all of this!

That's my prayer for you, Scott. I pray that God makes Himself very real to you, your family & friends and carries you all through the hardest of times and nudges you to keep your chin up when you find it nearly impossible to do so.

Some words from a song that I have found helpful:

When I think I'm going under, part the waters, Lord
When I feel the waves around me, calm the sea
When I cry for help, oh, hear me Lord and hold out your hand.
Touch my life, still the raging storm in me.

Lessons Learned...
Not exactly the lesson you expected... much like the vacation you didn't expect!
I'm writing this from my desk at Fox News Radio... just a few feet away from Tony Snow's old studio.
My first day at Fox was his first day back from the original radical surgery he underwent in 2005.
Watching Tony's courage woke me up and got me to the colonoscopy clinic!
Here's hoping for a good bounce-back. At least hair won't be an issue!
Get well soon, and get back to whatever nosebleed section the Blazers have banished the press to these days.

Get well soon Scott
Scott,
From a two-year survivor of stage one colon cancer, to a soon-to-be full-fledged survivor of colon cancer, my prayers and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery are headed your way.

I was able to return to work three weeks after surgery, moved halfway across the country four weeks after surgery, then another week after that, I started travelling around the midwest via bus with the hockey team I was broadcasting for.

Scott, you can do this. And by all means, tell everyone you can about it. The more we can tell people that colon cancer is a treatable/curable disease, the number of people who are saved will increase.

Keep us posted please.

Thank You Scott
I was young and KEX was my second job (after the obligatory fast food stint) in the late-90s and while our paths didn't cross very often, I remember you as one of the nicest, most sincere people I met during my time there.  There wasn't a single business reason you needed to speak to me, but you were always good for a cheery hello - THANK YOU.

I'm praying for a speedy recovery!

My heart goes out to you
Scott,
I know exactly what you are going through and my prayers are with you.

I was diagnosed with colorectol cancer that had metastized to my liver, February 2006.  I went through 19 months of treatment, with three major surgeries and three series of chemo before, between and after my surgeries.  The period of chemo/radiation was the worst.  I had an illeostomy for 6 weeks after my first surgery, the second surgery reversed that.  the third surgery was to take the leisons off of my liver.

Keep positive and set goals to look forward to.  I made sure that I went to at least part of my church service each week, just so that I could get out and socialize, even though I would feel horrible.

It was only through the support and prayers of family and friends that I got through it and am cancer free today.

You can do it!!!!  God will see you through it.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

Thank you so much for sharing what's going on so I can keep you and those you love in my thoughts and prayers.  While I've always enjoyed your selection and presentation of sports stories as well as your sense of humor, I've really appreciated your obvious enjoyment of life, your family and what you do.  All the best!!!

Bummer!
Hi Scott,
Boy, the rest of them are trying to fill in for you but sportscasting just isn't happenin' like yours. (shhhh, don't tell 'em I said this) Get well soon!!
Keep the faith.  You are in my prayers.  Life is always full of surprises.  Know that this did not catch God by surprise; maybe it caught you but not Him.  He is the great Physician.  With good doctors, peoples prayers and you minding the rules you will be up and around soon.  Meanwhile, take advantage of the attention while you get it; it will soon be over and "no one will feel sorry for you any more and you won't have any excuses."

Blessings, (just a faithful listener)

Hi Scott,

I was shocked to hear of your "vacation" this morning from Paul. I've known you through KEX for years and have total respect for your work. You've always struck me as a positive and genuinely nice guy. I'm a dentist in Salem and see examples of dental and medical patients and their healing every day. One of my favorite quotes is by Seneca, a philospher and healer from BC times. He said "Patients tend to move along the paths of their expectations". From what I know of you and your attitude, you'll be just fine!
Take good care of yourself and lots of us will be sending you positive thoughts, prayer, whatever you want to call it.

I was so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis.  There seems to be so much cancer about these days.  However, I know you will seek an aggressive regimen to beat this insidious disease.  Also, believe in your doctors!  God has given them the gift of healing.  My prayers are with you and your family!

GET WELL WISHES

Scott, good for you!  For taking care of business and not delaying

your surgery for colon cancer..I wish you all the best and my

prayers are with you as proceed through the kemo series.  Being

tired is normal, So expect it as you travel through your recovery.

I lost my husband 18 years ago, because he didn't do anything

until it was too late. And he didn't let anyone of his family know

that he was having problems.  The first I knew of it, was when I

took him to emergency and he needed a blood transfusion of 6

pts of blood, before they could even examine him.  We had only

been married 3 years, so I didn't have alot of clout.  But I sure

do now.  Thats why I say to you Congratulations you will be a

cancer survivor.  all the best....Sally
