This Month's Spotlight Athlete

Allison Smith

It's time to announce this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.
I'm pleased to recognize Clackamas High School freshman Allison Smith. Allison is a goalkeeper on the Clackamas High freshman soccer team. She loves soccer and plays indoors and outdoors, winter, spring, and summer in various leagues around the area. Allison enjoys being a goalkeeper, and she plays the position very well. She gets the job done on the field, and in the classroom. Allison sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Her teachers would tell you that Allison is a very responsible student, who excels, partly, because of her wonderfully positive attitude. In fact, she was awarded "Citizen of the Year" by her Middle School's faculty last year.

If soccer and schoolwork wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Allison is also an active member of the debate team in her local FFA chapter. She also does volunteer work for the local chapter of the National Charity League which provides service to the community while fostering the mother-daughter relationship.

Allison is a huge Oregon Ducks’ fan, but she might one day find herself at Oregon State because of her interest in animal sciences. She is looking for a career in animal biology, animal care, or animal law enforcement.

Allison was nominated by her proud father, Dean, who told me Allison is a great kid who keeps her nose out of trouble. He, jokingly, says she would be perfect if he could just get her to clean her room.

Congratulations to Allison Smith, daughter of Diane and Dean Smith, this month’s recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon. Allison will receive a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card from Famous Dave's.

April Winner

Korina Doty

It's time to recognize this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  I'm pleased to recognize junior Korina Doty, who attends the Milwaukie Academy of the Arts and participates on the Milwaukie High School dance team.

Korina excels in and out of the classroom.  She is an excellent student who proudly sports a 3.8 grade point average, and she has been a key member of Milwaukie High School’s outstanding small squad dance team the last three years.

Korina works year-round to be able to compete in dance at the highest level.  The summer months are filled with fundraising and working on her individual moves.  Then, when the school year begins, she joins her Milwaukie High teammates to work on routines and to prepare for the competitions that lead to State.  Last month, she was thrilled to be a part of the Milwaukie High School squad that won the Oregon Class 5A small squad state championship.  Those non-stop fifteen to twenty hour weeks of practice really paid off for Korina and the Milwaukie team.

Korina was nominated by her mother, Anna Doty, who told me her daughter is a real inspiration because she never complains no matter how hard she has to work to achieve her goals. Anna also told me Korina is a giving, sweet girl who gives 150% to everything she does.

Congratulations to Korina Doty, daughter of Anna and Charles Doty, this month’s recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  Korina will receive a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card from Famous Dave's.

It's time to recognize this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  I'm pleased to recognize Dallas High School freshman Tyler Curtis.

A good athlete, Tyler has wrestled and played baseball but is now concentrating on football and track & field.  He is a true leader.  Tyler served as President of his Sixth and Seventh-grade classes and was Student Body President at LaCreole Middle School as an Eighth-grader. Tyler is now the Dallas High School Freshman Class President.

Family friend Weston Morrill nominated Tyler, telling us that he's one of the most likable kids you'll ever find.  He says Tyler is kind and dedicated and is truly everybody's buddy. Sporting a 4.0 GPA, Tyler often helps other Dallas students with their studies.  Outside of school, Tyler has helped Morrill's son, Ryan, work on becoming an Eagle Scout, and Tyler has also volunteered with the Rotary Club.

Congratulations to Dallas High School’s Tyler Curtis, son of Ted and Heide Curtis, this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  Tyler will receive a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card from Famous Dave's.

February Winner
It's time to recognize this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  I'm pleased to recognize Molalla High School senior Steven Ray.

An outstanding student with a 3.75 GPA, Steven had not competed in any high school sports until this year when he tried out for wrestling, honoring a commitment he had made to his friend Cody Loop who died in a traffic accident in May of last year.  Loop had moved in with the Ray family the previous September and had become as close as a brother to Steven.  Cody Loop was a wrestler and had convinced Steven to go out for the sport in his senior year.  Despite having no prior wrestling experience, Steven has a record of 11-4 in the 171-pound weight class while competing on the varsity and JV squads.

After losing his close friend, Steven worked through his grief by creating a fundraiser in Cody's name to provide money for wrestling awards at Woodburn and Silverton High Schools which Loop had attended prior to his move to Molalla High. Steven also raised more than $600 for the "Share the Love" cancer fundraiser that his friend Cody had supported prior to his death.

Steven Ray will be attending Oregon State University in the fall, and the avid fisherman and hunter plans to major in forestry.  His mother, Michelle Ray, nominated Steven, telling us that he's a fantastic kid who deserves the recognition.  I totally agree.

Congratulations to Steven Ray of Molalla High School, this month's recipient of the Scott Lynn Sports Spotlight, Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.  Steven will receive a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card from Famous Dave's.
